Although there is the word “escape” in the name, Escape Rosecliff Island is not an escape game – rather, it is purely a hidden objects game.

Story: As I said, since this is a pure hidden object game, there is no story. You’ve been shipwrecked on a deserted island – find your way out.

Puzzles: Escape Rosecliff Island is deliciously tough and challenging. There are countless settings on the island and the abandoned mansion, each so intricately designed and filled with variously oriented objects that it is really taxing on the eyes and the brain to locate anything. In general, you have to find 10 objects in each setting, of which one will be an interactive puzzle. Clues have been interestingly put – like instead of telling you “butterfly”, the clue will be “ex-caterpillar”. Doubtless, that will increase the complexity considerably.

Besides that, there are some conventional jigsaw or match three puzzles every once in a while, when you are supposed to collect “escape material.” No comments on them.

Ambience: The graphics are okay, with an ancient, salty, forsaken and scary dark touch about them; nothing extraordinary. The music has an eerie, odd beat and okay for the game.

Bottomline: No story! That is my biggest problem with the game! And no variety in the puzzles! Since nothing’s really happening, the game can never go to that engrossing level when you can’t take your eyes off the screen. Play this only if you like picking out things from myriads of interesting complex settings, not otherwise. And even if you do, it’s highly likely that you’ll need to play on the relaxed mode with unlimited hints the first time.
