Like the description of Detective Agency? I did too. And got the game. And finished it. And threw up.

Take a bit of advice – please, please don’t waste your life on this game.

Story: A treasure map is stolen from the museum. And our strapping young James is out to recover it. He does so. Happy Ending!

But wait, the torture is greater. Every moment you’re kept in the ultimate suspense of what the “scary old” thieves are going to do, and in the end, the case turns out to be absolutely lame! Why did they try to steal a treasure map? It could just have been my earplugs, for all the importance that’s attached to the word “treasure”. The story has many bizarre twists and turns and a mindless excess of characters, but just about nothing with the plot. Just when I was thinking “now the story takes an interesting turn”, out popped a dialog saying “excellent, you’ve managed the case”. Finished. An utter shame to detectives and detective stories.

Puzzles: Right, now the game does have quite a few puzzles – hidden object, code cracking and the like. But the puzzles are hellishly easy, and what’s more, you can skip them whenever you want, with no points deducted! The locations are exactly 3 or 4, the objects are the same places every time you visit, and the graphics are unimpressive and mediocre. The only thing that makes the puzzles tough is the lack of any level-headed instruction about what one is supposed to do on screen – and I tell you, the frustration of having to figure out quirky games can drive you mad!

The game gives you hints in the dozen, but hey, here’s the catch – the hint is just literally a hint. You still gotta search for the offending object yourself, with just an object-detector magnifying glass for help.

The music is peppy. The game is light in size and on your CPU. Anything else I can add to the “pros” list? Not really.

Bottomline: If you want good detective games in the hidden objects genre, you can try out CSI, Women’s Murder Club, Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes. But just not this.

Rating: 1.5 out of 5
